Ok, Let's just try to make the best of it. I could say, "It's not that bad", but we all know that rainy season in Orlando precedes Hurricane season and it is bad. This weekend, my grandchildren and I did find a way to make the best of it. I have four grandchildren, they range in age from eight to sixteen. They have had the pleasure of joining me on cruises to the Bahamas, more than once, and we have had our share of days in the park;be it Disney World, Universal, Island of Adventure, Epcot, you name it. That's one of the perks of living and working in Orlando. It's been a long time since I have had all of the kids visit at the same time, so I had this great idea that we would take a road trip. I budgeted, looked up maps, places to eat and stay along way. Who knew that every fourth grader in Orange County, since I was in the fourth grade, has visited St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest town in the nation. Even the eight year old is looking forward to her first trip next year. I did'nt want to spoil it for her and the rest of the kids kind of felt that it was a one time place to visit. Well, after the kids burst my idea bubble, I had to come up with a new plan and quick. I did, and If I must say so myself, it was brilliant;each child selected what they wanted to share with the rest of the family. We all agreed, that we would go along, like it or not. The result was hilariously funny, very affordable, and we all learned alot about each other . Along the way we also got the tourist treatment in our own back yard;visiting places like Gatorland, a must see, not just for the gators; The Fun Spot,on I-Drive, a little overrated unless you plan to race the go carts, which we recommend. Everyone's reaction to the new movie, Dance Flick was simply priceless. One of the highpoints of the weekend, had to be watching my twelve year old grandson play Championship basketball in The Faith World League. Not only that, his team, Frontline Outreach, brought home the Championship trophy. That's how our weekend started and that energy stayed with us all weekend long. By staying at home, we saved money. We decided to spend the savings on a buffet dinner out one night and a visit to the grocery store for a great cooking experience at home on the next. They all agreed, this was one of their better visits at Nana's house, sort of like Weekend at Bernie's, without the booze. I agree, we made some great memories. I'll just have to take the grown up trip to St. Augustine, I hear it is beautiful on the beach there.
Where is your favorite Place? Those of us who have lived long enough to travel have a favorite place by now. The right to move about the United States without "Papers" is a right that others fought and died for. Getting a passport and seeing the world, is an extra treat. I love visiting the Seattle area. I look forward to returning every summer to see what's new or different. I know it rains alot, but there is always something fun to do; like festivals, city attractions, either on the Waterfront, Downtown or at the Space Needle.
How about you, where's your favorite place? Take it from me and alot of my friends, life is shorter than you think, make the bet of it and Chart you own Course?
